- to make a lot of money, especially through illegal or unethical means. During the early Republic of China, the Qing Dynasty coin, "Dragon Dollar" was still in use. In 1948, after ROC government introduced the "Gold Dollar Note", which quickly depreciated, people rushed to exchange their money for foreign currency. The government then banned currency exchange. Cantonese people used "Salty Dragon" (鹹龍) as a code for the most common foreign currency: the HK dollar; literally: to collect dragon, means to hoard HK dollars on the black market. ----
