ji6 zi2 dai2ji6 zai2 dai2èr zǐ dǐ

English

  1. someone who is shameless and clingy
  2. one who is incapable, not prepared
  3. sandwich pun of which latter part is "follow until die" (being obligated to follow). Means someone whose foundations are weak, who is weak in strength, or who can only be a follower but not a pioneer. Originated from poker game Five Card Stud (Show Hand); when dealt a 2 (the lowest value) as the face-down card, the only course of action is to follow along what others are betting. Literally: dealt a 2 as face-down card

Cantonese

Examples

I came from public housing and was dealt a bad hand in life, so I have to work twice as hard or I'll be begging on the streets.

The market leader has started cutting the prices; since we are only a small company in the business, we have no choice but follow suit.
